Christy's Gang

Description

Some characters from a (VERY old) Numnums/Supernum story, which I wrote back when I was probably only around 7 or 8 years old, upgraded to my current way of drawing.  And in one case, drastically redesigned to the point of almost not even resembling the original version anymore.

Speaking of redesigning: I've recently decided that K'hyurbhis' "cheek marks" are actually whiskers, and will now be drawing them as such.  The guy on the right in the chef hat is probably the first example of this you guys will be seeing.

The one human is Christy Telamora (originally just called Christy; I didn't give her a last name until 2010!), who is the leader primarily because she's less of a moron than the other three.  She has a magical pendant (not pictured) that she uses as a power source for her magic; when the strange blue liquid inside runs low, so does her power, and if it breaks she's suddenly magic-free (...she never does learn how to use magic without the thing helping out, apparently, even though she technically should be capable of it if she tried.)  She's also come across a Numkiller sword, which is infused with Kihlah energy which is specifically designed for fighting Numnums, harming them more than other opponents.  During her time on Nummorro she's become much stronger than an ordinary human, but she can never keep up with her opponents (especially when that opponent is Supernum!), so once she realizes this she surrounds herself with a gang of stronger thugs for protection.

The big guy she's sitting on was called Blubbery Blurby originally, and I might actually keep that name (at least as a nickname) for him if I ever reuse him for anything... since he is blubbery, after all.  Very blubbery.  Anyway... he's the strongest of the group in terms of raw strength, but he's not incredibly bright.  He also isn't a very skilled fighter, relying on brute force rather than actually developing much of a fighting style.  He can gain further strength from his Blurby Rage, but he's not good at controlling it so he'll end up wearing himself out if he relies upon it too often.

The Numnum on the left with the wonky teeth and googly eyes was originally called "The Dummest Num on Earth," and yes, the misspelling of "dumbest" was intentional (that's how I spelled it in the original story.)  I haven't decided what I'll be calling him now, though it's safe to say the old name is no more.  It didn't even make sense in the original story--being the "Dumbest Num on Earth" is kind of meaningless since there are no Numnums on Earth, and on top of that he never actually showed up on Earth at all (his only appearance was in a story set on Nummorro... or "Numnum Land" as it was called back then... which has always been another planet, not part of Earth in any way.)  Aside from being the dumbest member of the group, he's also kinda wimpy, being nothing more than just an ordinary Numnum thug with some facial deformities.  Even Christy would probably beat him in a fight.

And finally, on the right is the one that I've completely redesigned lately.  Originally he was called "Marching Milde" and was a direct ripoff of a boss from Yoshi's Island... except that I inexplicably decided to make him a chef who owned his own restaurant, rather than just... a random round pinkish-whitish blob monster.  Since his only connection to the original Marching Milde was having a rubbery body and having the same appearance, I went ahead and changed his appearance as well as dropping the name (though I haven't decided on a new one yet.)  He's now a K'hyurbhi (which, conveniently, makes Christy's gang fit into the recurring "Numnum/K'hyurbhi/Blurby" pattern!), albeit one with an abnormally huge mouth and tiny little eyes.  It seems like "rejects with deformities" seems to be a recurring theme of Christy's gang, at least if Blubbery Blurby's abnormal size counts.

Random fact: these guys had a TON of timeline- and plothole-related issues surrounding them in my old stories.  Christy appears in three stories which seem to be connected pretty clearly to each other.  In The Search for the Red Num Killer K'hyurbhi is sealed away, in The Numnum Club Christy is inexplicably referred to as "the leader of the bad guys" (suggesting that she's somehow taken Killer K'hyurbhi's position), and finally, in Supernum Meets Commander Keen, Christy is among the enemies who runs rampant to generate a distraction while Killer K'hyurbhi breaks free from where he was sealed before.  The problem? Christy is killed by her own minions after they're tricked into turning on her at the end of The Numnum Club, and there's never any mention of her coming back to life between that story and the next one! Whoops.
Marching Milde had a similar issue--he's strongly implied to have died in The Search for the Red Num, then showed up as part of Christy's gang in The Numnum Club.  At least "well, it turns out he actually survived that" is actually possible in his case, considering that all that happened to him is that he sank into some rutoo that had been superheated by lava previously (...rather than been chopped up into waffles and eaten like what had happened to Christy.)
And on top of that, a character and a seemingly-important plot point are completely forgotten between the first half of The Numnum Club and the rest.  Christy was originally one of two girls mentioned as "secretly being major bad guys," but then she's the only one who shows up throughout the rest of the story.  Also, Eddie's parents were abducted and their cars stolen at the beginning of the story, but the abduction/theft is never mentioned again--and then later stories have Mom and Dad, and their cars, back in place as if nothing had ever happened.
