15 Years Later: Various Enemies

Description

Probably the last batch of enemy sprites I'll be putting up here -- I'm done with the small ones, almost done with the medium ones, and around halfway done with the big ones now (21 out of 42 "regular" big enemies -- the other 8/50 are parts of the two 4-part super sized enemies the game had.)  I was just going to post one for each size, but I really liked how some of the other big ones turned out so I figured I'd go ahead and post up 4 more of each size all in one picture.

=======

GOOGOO EYES: Here's one with a barely-changed design -- the old sprite doesn't even look completely awful.  Only real change is that they now have some  tentacles on the back that they can used to climb around on walls and ceilings.  These look like small and relatively harmless blobby critters, but they're actually extremely dangerous when angered or threatened, as they're jam-packed with Kihlah energy and will unleash random chaotic blasts of the stuff all around them, wrecking their surroundings and collapsing cave tunnels in the process.

NUP: If I remember right, these were originally (like 1995-1996) based on the "yup yup yup, nope nope nope" aliens from Sesame Street.  Except my version had a mouthful of big ol' scary teeth, of course.

POOPYMAN:  Yep... that's a big ol' turd with arms and legs.  And a knife.  Waaay back in the early '90s, I had a lot more poop-based creatures in my drawings, but at one point my parents or somebody complained about the abundance of poop so I went through and changed a bunch of them to other things... the Poopyman was one of the few that escaped without being de-pooped.  I like the pose the new version has -- like it's a flamboyant dancing turd, or something. XD

TURTLE:  Not much to say here.  It's... a turtle.

BAD PLECO: A lot of aquatic critters on this page -- turtles, fish, crabs.  Here's Fish #1, a pleco, because we had plecos in our fishtank back home at the time I made these.  Except I really liked plecos, so I couldn't have a regular pleco as an enemy, it had to be a "bad" pleco.  There were a lot of "Bad ____" enemies back then.

ICKFISH: And here's Fish #2! This one is... afflicted with a horrible disease which has given it zombie-eyes (in the new version at least) and patches of white fuzzy stuff growing from its body.

KILLER X: One of many new "boss" characters that I originally made up in my 4th grade year, Killer X didn't get a single bit of personality or backstory or anything until the mid-2000s or so when I decided that he was actually a Koruku (an alien species I came up with in middle school, which coincidentally had a head shape similar to this guy.)  He... still doesn't really have much in that way, but his design has been massively updated, at least.

NARR-YUCKFOOD NUM: Back in the 4th grade time period when the enemy stat blocks that later inspired The Kirby Lands were being drawn, this one had the ridiculously long name of "Narnian Yuckow Food Num."  Apparently my incomplete game idea thing involved... going to Narnia, for some reason.  And Narnia had a population of Numnums that had been fused with a Yuckow Food somehow.  I guess Killer Kirby was doing some crazy mad-scientist experiments on various critters, or something.  Anyway, when the whole Narnia thing was replaced with Narrland (aka "Chinese Bootleg Narnia") in the actual game, the name of this one changed a bit.  The original wouldn't have fit in an OHRRPGCE enemy name anyway. XD

GRABBER CRAB: I really like how this one's updated sprite turns out.  It's just a big ol' scary crab, but still, the new one actually looks pretty good!

KILLER KIRBY:  Since he's the main villain of the game and all (...at least until the lame, generic second-half villain shows up near the end), there are a lot of different Killer Kirby fights in The Kirby Lands.  Two regular ones, one cyborg one, one zombie one, and finally a hypnotized one from shortly before when he joins your party in the lame second half of the game.

NARRLION:  Yes, there was also a Narrwitch enemy in The Kirby Lands (along with the Narr-Yuckfood Num above and a white Parupoo recolor called a Narupoo.)  No Narrwardrobe, though.  That would've been silly.

STOMACH: Fat Num's stomach, to be specific.  There was a point in the game where you encountered an enormous Numnum, named "Fat Num," who you couldn't beat in a normal fight and instead would get eaten by.  Which led to a brief internal-organ dungeon with boss battles against his stomach, small intestine, liver, and large intestine.
