#115: The Actual First Pokemon

Description

Well, the first actual Pokémon species, anyway.  I suppose some of the super-ancient, probably-one-of-a-kind legendaries like Arceus could be older.

Anyway... this was a "pseudo-legendary" critter (and when you hear "pseudo-legendary," think Phione, not Dragonite) from the 2008-2009 set of Pokémon that I made up.  As the title suggests, it was intended to be the TRUE "first Pokémon."  If you know anything about how genetics and diversification of species actually works, you've probably figured out by now that the Mew = First theory never made a whole lot of sense.  As species evolve and branch off into new species, the newer species can be traced back to their ancestors because they all have traces of the ancestor's DNA among all the DNA that has changed over time to become something different from their ancestor.  In other words, Mew shouldn't have the DNA signatures of every other Pokémon if it really was the first Pokémon species--all other Pokémon should have at least small traces of Mew DNA in them!
Those who theorize that Mew must be the oldest species because of its oddball mixture of every other species' DNA literally got things BACKWARDS from how they actually work--if Mew has the exact DNA signature of each other Pokémon mixed together, it has to be more recent than all of those Pokémon (unless it's somehow absorbing the new DNA of every species that it encounters, or something along those lines.)  It would have to be the DESCENDANT of all other Pokémon (...did Mews come from way off into the future or something?), not their ancestor.  Which means Mew must be, just as its Pokédex entry title has been saying all along, a NEW SPECIES.

This one, on the other hand, is a simple floating watery blob, barely even a solid being.  It probably should just be Normal-type or something to make it as basic as possible (as it is the FIRST Pokémon species), but considering that life on Earth in real life started in the oceans, I thought it was appropriate to make it a Water-type.

Type: Water / Ghost
